James Tompkins, MD
Dr. Tompkins is a lifelong resident of Byrdstown. He graduated from Pickett County High School in 1998, completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Tennessee Technological University in 2002, and received his Doctor of Medicine from the James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee in 2006. He then completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2010. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Physicians (ABFM), a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and additionally holds the Designation of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine from the ABFM. Dr. Tompkins has practiced Primary Care in the Upper Cumberland area since 2010, as well as Hospital Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
He currently serves as Associate Medical Director for Caris Hospice, and is Medical Director for Pickett County Emergency Medical Services. Additionally, he serves as Pickett County Medical Examiner and volunteers as Team Physician for Pickett County K-8 and High School.

Jori Shaffer, MD
Dr. Shaffer grew up in Byrdstown. She graduated from Pickett County High School in 1990, completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Tennessee Technological University in 1994, and received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Tennessee Memphis in 1998. She then completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 2002. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics. She has practiced medicine in Byrdstown, caring for patients from all over the Upper Cumberland and Southern Kentucky region, for nearly 24 years.
Dr. Jori (as her patients affectionately call her) resides with her husband Lance and their sons Quinn, Zeke and Zeb in Livingston, TN. She and her husband are active in their local church, especially in the worship ministry. They all love music and doing family activities and adventures together.

Renee Brown, APRN-CNP
Renee comes to us from FastPace in Monticello, Kentucky and offers diverse experience caring for adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics for over 25 years. She is a lifelong resident of Albany, Kentucky, graduating from Clinton County High School, then completing an Associates degree in Nursing from Somerset Community College, and finally earning Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Nursing from Western Kentucky University.
She resides in Clinton County, Kentucky with her husband Greg. Her favorite pastime is spending time with her family and spoiling her grandson.

Tori Reagan, FNP-C
Tori is a Byrdstown native. She graduated from Pickett County High School in 2017, and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tennessee Technological University in May of 2021. She recently completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Tennessee Technological University and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Tori has spent her nursing career working in labor and delivery and various surgical settings as an RN.
She resides in Byrdstown with her husband, Aaron, and two daughters. We are thrilled to have Tori join our provider team serving patients in her hometown!
